This content applies to a previous version of CARTO
In October 2021 we released a new version of our platform. You can find the latest documentation at docs.carto.com
What Happens After My Account Expires?
Your Free Account with CARTO lasts for 12 months. After expiration, when you attempt to log into your account, you will see a message indicating your account is locked.
What does a locked account mean for you?
When your account locks, you will not be able to access your data or maps. Any externally facing Builder links that you shared will no longer work. Any CARTO.js or CARTO VL apps that you have made will no longer function, and any API workflows you have set up will no longer work.
Your data will still exist in CARTO for the next 90 days. To reactivate your account and restore service, you must add a payment method and upgrade to the Individual Plan, which requires monthly or annual billing.
If you choose not to enter a payment method before the 90-day period, your account and all the data associated with it will be deleted. CARTO cannot recover deleted accounts or associated data.
