In October 2021 we released a new version of our platform. You can find the latest documentation at docs.carto.com
What are the system requirements to run CARTO?
Overview
CARTO is a Location Intelligence platform for building applications that enable users to visualize, analyze, and extract insights from data. This guide covers system requirements for the UI and development libraries.
Builder and Editor
CARTO’s user interfaces like Builder and Editor are constructed with CARTO.js. These tools work for the last 2 versions in any modern browser and IE11.
Commercial On-Premise Installations
The commercial installer provides tools and scripts for configuring a CARTO instance through:
- Configuration, upgrade, and maintenance tools
- RPM packaging system
This solution supports RHEL and CentOS v6.x systems on a fixed release cycle. A detailed technical requirements summary is available separately.
Open Source Installations
Most CARTO components (Builder, Maps API, SQL API) are open source, along with underlying stack elements like PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Redis, and GDAL. This enables customized deployments.
The recommended starting point is a clean Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial LTS system, with installation instructions provided in the official documentation.
Support
For CARTO account holders needing technical help, contact support@carto.com. Open Source users can post questions in the cartodb Google Group forum.
